¡Corre por pluma y papel (o en su caso abre el bloc de notas de tu celular)! Hemos recopilado una serie de consejos que te serán de mucha ayuda para acoplarte a tu nuevo hogar en España.
At Glex we know that moving to a new country in which you are not familiar, you do not know many people and on top of that you are starting a new professional and academic challenge, can be extremely overwhelming. Knowing this experience, we have prepared some tips that can help you in your new residence in Spain.
1. Dare to see the world .
Even though you may feel lonely in this new but wonderful country, try to venture out and meet new people and places. Remember that Spain's population is made up of 13% expats; people who, just like you, are looking for friends and new experiences. You can search for foreign student communities in online forums, the possibilities are endless! Some apps that can help you meet new people are MeetMe, Meetup, Skout, Bumble or Badoo.
2. Hone your location skills
Memorize your surroundings and the walking and public transportation routes that are most useful to you. Also, research how to get to the tourist attractions that interest you the most; you have a whole country to know! Some applications that will facilitate this task are Google Maps, IGN Maps of Spain, Glympse and Citymapper.
3. Get into the traditions . Spain is a country full of festivities and celebrations that will give you a very broad overview of Spanish culture and traditions. Some of the most important holidays are Christmas, Easter, Sanfermines and Three Kings Day.
4. Get to know life "a la española". It is important that you get to know the habits of the Spanish people in order to adapt more easily to your new home. You will need to know the meal times, the siesta, whether it is necessary to leave a tip in restaurants (and if so, what percentage of the bill is accepted), to name a few examples.
5. A little piece of your home . This is the only one of the tips mentioned in this blog that you will need to prepare while still in your home country. While packing your most important clothes and belongings in a suitcase, be sure to pack some item that reminds you of your home and loved ones. These can be photos, small pieces of art, books or other familiar items. You can also seek the advice and company of other expats in groups such as expat.com, Mexicans in Barcelona, etc.
But above all, don't forget to have fun, learn as much as you can and always be yourself! At Glex we will be there to help you have the best experience of your life.
